RENOVATION OF THE ZONE OF THE OLD DRAINAGE SLUICE IN BLANKENBERGE
With the renovation of the zone of the old drainage sluice in the marina of Blankenberge, the Coastal Division managed to upgrade a rundown location. On the one hand, investments were made to further develop the marina operation and on the other, holiday-makers can enjoy a nice walk from the Spuikom of Blankenberge to the pier and the beach.
During the works, the quay wall was extended and a slipway was constructed to launch small pleasure craft from a trailer. Additionally, a point of assembly for waste and spoil was decontaminated and applications harmful to man and the environment were removed. VVW Blankenberge (Flemish Water Sport Clubs Association) invested in the construction of a new club house, the CABO. At a later stage the Coastal Division took care of environmental planning for the newly realised sites.
In 2014, the Coastal Division received the Sustainable Coastal Project Award for the project from the Province of West Flanders. With these Awards the province aims to turn the spotlight on projects that look to the future and excel in ingenuity and sustainability.
